21. Hole cleaning

The next day, after eating my morning ration and cleaning up, I headed straight into town. There’s no trash collection today, but if you’re lucky you might be able to clean the hole. After hearing about it, I was curious about what kind of work it was.

After an hour’s journey, we arrived at the town and started walking again to the guild. And then, we finally arrived at the guild.

Perhaps because it was early in the morning, the guild was deserted and quiet. Only about half of the people were sitting at the counter, perhaps because the guild’s reception had just started. I lined up in one of them.

“Are you a refugee?”

“Yes. It’s an adventurer’s badge.”

“I’ll keep it for you. It’s F rank. Please wait a moment.”

I interact with my sister who is different from yesterday.

“Today’s work is weeding and pest control in the garden, 4000 Ruta. Babysitting, 4000 Ruta. Garbage collection hole cleaning, 6000 Ruta. Which one would you like?”

Oh, it’s time to clean the holes! I wonder if I was lucky today, compared to other rewards, it’s the highest, so let’s try it.

“Please clean the garbage collection hole.”

“Yes, I’ll explain.”

Apparently there is no one in charge this time. I wonder what the explanation would be.

“It’s about cleaning the hole after garbage collection. The incineration was finished yesterday, so your job will be to search for glass and iron among the burnt remains. The items you find will be placed in a special box nearby. It’s in the , so please put it there.”

“What should I do with the burnt debris?”

“You can just leave the burnt debris in the hole. Just the glass and iron I mentioned earlier is fine. The more you have, the better, so if possible, I’d appreciate it if you could look for it carefully.”

That’s right, what you pick up becomes money. I wonder if working hard here will benefit the lord, so let’s carefully search for it.

“The tools you need are near the box, so feel free to use them. Do you know where the hole is?”

“Yes, it is okay”

“Then, when the work is finished, please come over here and I will give you the reward. In addition, we will check the site later, but if the work is sloppy, there will be a fine, so please be careful. ”

Well, if there is no such thing, some people will deliberately cut corners. I bowed to my sister and left the guild. Good luck with your new job!

After walking for several tens of minutes, we came close to the hole we came from yesterday. The inside of the hole is charred black, and the garbage has turned into charcoal without a trace. I wanted to see the magic of fire that can burn so much.

“Well, there was a box…!”

I found a box nearby to put the materials in. If you look closely at the box, you’ll see that one side contains glass and the other side contains iron. I see, I should put it here.

When I looked next to the box, I saw two buckets, a fork used for farming, large boots, and a ladder. The narrow spacing between the fork gaps is probably to make it easier to find the material.

I quickly changed into rain boots, grabbed a ladder and set it up in the hole. The hole is 3 meters deep and cannot be climbed up or down without a ladder.

Then drop a fork into the hole, then two buckets and you’re good to go. Now all I have to do is go down into the hole.

I grabbed the ladder and slowly climbed down. I was surprised that when I put my weight on the ladder, it sank a little, and I felt a little cold.

When I reached the bottom and got off the ladder, I sank a little. It’s kind of rare to find a slightly fluffy charcoal.

“Well, do you want to do it?”

I rolled up my sleeves and held a fork in my hand. The forks are a bit heavy and awkward to handle. It seems that there will be heavy labor from now on, so I wish I could train my body little by little. Then you should be able to do a lot of things.

I stick a fork into the charcoal and slowly lift and shake it. Hmm, isn’t it here?

This time, insert it in a different place, lift it up, and shake it. Ah, there was a sound coming from the tip of the fork. Put down the fork once, get closer and crouch down. When I felt inside the extinguishing charcoal with my hand, something hard hit my hand.

“This…is glass.”

I found some slightly melted glass. I wonder how much this will sell for. It’s small, so I guess it costs 1 ruta or something like that. Hmm, I need to learn about the price of this thing. I have a lot of things to do.

Put the glass in the bucket and use the fork to dig out the charcoal again. When I heard a bang and lifted it up, a strangely shaped piece of iron appeared. I wonder if this was also transformed by fire magic.

Just put it in a bucket and dig it up. Glass, iron, iron, iron, glass. Silently picking up materials and putting them in repeatedly, the bucket was filled halfway in no time.

It’s hard to lift if it’s too heavy, so let’s put it in a box around here. First, hold the iron bucket in your hand and climb the ladder. Climb up and dump the contents of the bucket into the box containing the iron. This is fine.

Put the glass in the same way. It was quite difficult to go up and down.

Hold a fork in your hand and dig through the charcoal. When I picked it up with another click, I saw a small piece of metal. I wondered what it was, and when I looked at it, it was something in the shape of a coin.

“There’s no way the coins would be in the garbage.”

Karoo said it, but I was skeptical. He picks up the metal covered with cinders with his hand. I wonder what it is…silver?

“This… it’s a small silver coin.”

Huh, I never thought I would pick up a small silver coin. Or rather, is it possible to accidentally throw a small silver coin in the garbage? I guess I dropped it on the spur of the moment. Anyway, I got 100 Ruta.

“I feel bad, but I appreciate it.”

I couldn’t help but whisper. Take out the coin bag and put it inside with a clink. This kind of luck is a one-time thing, right? Ugh, it makes me feel a little greedy. You have to do this kind of thing.

I stab my fork into it and shake it with all my might. Iron, iron, glass, glass, coins…coins? I picked it up again. This time… it’s a copper coin.

Well, it’s a fluke, isn’t it? Absolutely. Shake his head to the side and drive away the evil thoughts. She takes a deep breath and resets her mind.

Take a fork and stab it, pick it up and shake it. Glass, iron, iron, iron, iron, glass, glass, coins… Eh! ?

As I excitedly brushed off the charcoal, a piece of silver came into view…a small silver coin. Oh no, are coins that easy to throw away? She can’t believe it and pinches her cheek. Damn it, it doesn’t seem like a dream.

I wonder how I can find so many things…I see, it’s because I’m lucky. I wonder if this status is useful in times like this. Come to think of it, I was able to receive the quest to clean the hole, so it’s all thanks to luck. Thank you very much.

After that, I worked hard to find many materials and coins. The total amount of coins was 432 Ruta, which seems to have provided me with some extra income.

I finished work early, so I think I’ll have some free time today. What to do with the remaining time… Let’s go to the library on the third floor. I have to study letters right away.
