35. Bakery salesperson (6)

Now that I had a big goal of becoming a B-rank adventurer, I was motivated to continue working as a salesperson. After two months, she gets a job as a salesperson and gets to the point where she enjoys talking with customers. After three months, I had developed the skill to immediately sell bread to customers who were unsure.

I no longer felt so nervous about being a refugee, and I think I was now able to treat people like normal people. It may be a small progress, but for me it’s a big progress. It’s thanks to my confidence.

I am grateful to have found this job. There were parts of her that didn’t fit in with this world, but she gradually got used to it by interacting with the people of this world. It’s been less than a year since I remembered my previous life, which is a big step forward.

Mr. Retom, the owner of the bakery, praised my work. Well, since I’m an adult on the inside, I’m a little nervous about him cheating, but I’m grateful.

It’s like they not only hired me as a child, but took good care of me. Although he wasn’t the type to talk aggressively, he was able to get the point across and give instructions, and thoroughly explained everything about the job.

I think this gave me peace of mind and allowed me to work without feeling rushed. I’m glad Retom-san is my employer.

Let’s do our best today as well.

“Cheese bread is ready. I’ll take care of the rest.”

“Understood”

Looks like we have some bread to sell in the evening. When it was placed on the central stand, the strong smell of cheese spread throughout the store. This scent makes me feel like the end of the day is approaching. Yeah, let’s do our best and not lose heart until the end.

As usual, use tongs to carefully begin arranging the items on the shelf. Place your hand under the bread to avoid dropping it.

I was able to finish arranging everything neatly today, and I feel a great sense of accomplishment. As I was thinking of waiting at the counter, I heard footsteps approaching the store. It’s early today, I thought as I looked at the other side of the doorway…

“Hello”

“No… ah”

“There you are, Riru!”

There was Karoo. Karoo runs up to the counter with a happy look on his face.

“W-what happened?”

“Hehehe, I’m surprised. I just wanted to meet Riru.”

“I see…I’m glad to see you again after such a long time.”

“me too”

I was very surprised to see Karoo here. He had told me where he worked, but I never expected him to come. I’m relieved to see that the Karoo looks the same after a long time.

“That dress and apron suit you. I’m surprised that Riru can turn out so cute.”

“Already”

“Hehe, I’m sorry. I was so happy that I ended up saying something mean.”

I wonder if he’s being praised or teased. But it’s been a long time since we last interacted, so I’m really happy.

“Yes, Karoo, did you come here for some business?”

“That’s right! I’m now able to do the reception at the store!”

“Oh, really!? Congratulations.”

Looks like Karoo has found a job. I’ve always wanted to work at a store, and I’m really happy that it came true.

“After work, why don’t we talk about things on the way home?”

“please!”

“Okay, I’ll be waiting for you at the front desk.”

I jumped at the happy offer. As soon as Karoo leaves the store, customers arrive. Okay, let’s serve customers as usual and do the rest of the work perfectly.

“thank you very much”

From then on, the pre-evening rush started, and I was busy serving customers. As always, the cheese bread was popular and sold out first, and even after it was sold out, there was no shortage of customers asking for the cheese bread. I politely decline the customer and recommend another bread.

In this way, they sell more and more of the bread in the store, and in no time there are only five left. If this much remains, the store will close.

“Mr. Retom, there are only five pieces of bread left.”

“Okay, then we’re closed.”

“Understood”

After getting confirmation, prepare for closing. Transfer the bread to a board and wipe the center stand and shelf clean. I also wiped down the counter and was done. Finally, I received two pieces of bread and whatever I wanted and was ready to go home.

“Thank you for your hard work.”

“Ah, thank you for your hard work.”

When I said hello and left the store, Karoo was waiting right next to me.

“Sorry to have kept you waiting, Karoo.”

“No, it’s totally fine. Well then, let’s talk while we’re walking home.”

“yes”

The two of us walk side by side down the street dyed by the setting sun. At first, we chatted about ramblings and enjoyed our first conversation in a while. Ah, so nostalgic. We talked a lot while collecting garbage.

“So you said you got a job as a receptionist at a store.”

“That’s right. It seems that the owner’s wife was tending the shop at the tool shop, but she passed away. So they sent a request to the Adventurer’s Guild to fill in the store staff.”

Karoo’s job seems to be as a receptionist at a tool shop. It seems that married couples often have children and leave the store to their children, but is this different?

“Didn’t the couple have any children?”

“From what I’ve heard, the child has become a town official. That’s why there was no one left to look after the store.”

If your child has a different job, he or she cannot be a storekeeper. As I was nodding my head, Karoo continued talking.

“Before I accepted this request, I put a lot of effort into studying what Riru recommended.”

“Is it writing or calculating?”

“Well, when I wasn’t working, I was studying all the time at the orphanage. Sister was also surprised because I suddenly said I wanted to study.”

Apparently, Karoo imitated me and studied really hard. Sister said she was surprised, but I thought it was funny imagining how long Karoo had been avoiding studying. She looks like an older sister, but I guess that’s appropriate for her age.

“Studying was really hard. But Riru said that she was studying by herself even though she didn’t know anything, so there’s no way I’m going to lose even though I’ve been studying a little.”

“Hehe, it seems like Karoo.”

“Don’t laugh anymore.”

The two of them butt each other and laugh. I see, Karoo learned from me and worked hard…I’m happy.

“As soon as I was able to read, write, and do calculations, I told the adventurer’s guild. I was also tested, but thanks to you, it was written on my adventurer’s card that I had normal skills.”

“That was great. I’m glad that my experience was put to good use.”

“It’s all thanks to Riru!”

Those Karoos hugged me. It’s a little embarrassing.

“What’s more, once they found out that I was a child from an orphanage, they decided that I could work as a live-in worker. They said that they could continue this job as long as I didn’t quit.”

“Oh, so Karoo is leaving the orphanage?”

“Even though I’m leaving the orphanage, I’ve taken care of you, and I plan to repay you little by little from now on.”

Karoo is amazing, he was already thinking that much before he acted. I still can’t leave the village. Not only do they not have enough money to move out, but their jobs are not stable. What should I do?

“Next time Riru becomes an adventurer outside, please come to the tool shop where I work.”

“…Yeah, I’ll definitely go.”

“Promise.”

Yes, I would like to go on an adventure outside. Karoo was able to achieve his goals in Karoo’s way, I will achieve my goals in my own way.

The two of them sway together on the main street where the setting sun shines through. That moment wiped away any remaining anxiety I had and changed my outlook to the future.
